Who should use LimitX Browser?

  • Parents: Who want to protect their children from inappropriate online content
  • Schools: That need student-safe browsing solutions
  • Families: Looking for privacy-respecting parental controls
  • Educators: Who need content filtering for educational environments

Yes, LimitX Browser is currently free during the beta testing phase. Essential safety features will remain free after public launch, with optional premium features available through subscription.

What devices does LimitX Browser support?

Currently, LimitX Browser is available for:

  • Android 7.0 (API level 24) and higher
  • Minimum 2GB RAM recommended
  • Support for tablets and phones

iOS, desktop, and other platforms are planned for future releases.

Installation & Setup

How do I install LimitX Browser?

For Beta Testers:

  1. Join the Google Group: groups.google.com/g/limitx
  2. Download from Play Store: Get LimitX Beta
  3. Open the app and follow the setup wizard

Important: You must use the same Google account for both the Google Group and Play Store, or you'll receive an "Item not found" error.

Why do I see "Item not found" on Play Store?

This error occurs when:

  • You're not signed into the Play Store with the same Google account that joined the Google Group
  • Your Google Group membership hasn't been processed yet (wait 5-10 minutes)
  • You haven't joined the Google Group at all

Solution: Ensure you're using the same Google account for both services and wait a few minutes after joining the group.

First-time Setup Guide

  1. Install the App: Download from Play Store
  2. Grant Permissions: Allow necessary permissions when prompted
  3. Set Parental PIN: Create a secure PIN for parental settings
  4. Configure Filters: Set up content filters and restrictions
  5. Enable Monitoring: Turn on keyword detection and monitoring features
  6. Test Settings: Verify that filters work as expected

What permissions does LimitX Browser need?

LimitX Browser requires the following permissions:

  • Internet: For web browsing
  • Storage: To save downloads and cache
  • Accessibility Services: For content monitoring and keyword detection
  • Device Admin: To prevent unauthorized app removal
  • Query All Packages: To show installed apps in share menu
  • Install Packages: For extension and APK downloads
  • Camera/Microphone: For websites that need media access
  • Notifications: For alerts and download notifications

All permissions are optional except Internet. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we use these permissions.

Parental Controls

How do I set up parental controls?

  1. Open LimitX Browser
  2. Tap the menu button (three dots)
  3. Go to Settings → Parental Controls
  4. Create a parental PIN (keep this secure)
  5. Configure filters, blocked keywords, and restrictions
  6. Enable monitoring features as needed

How do website filters work?

LimitX Browser uses multiple filtering methods:

  • DNS Filtering: Blocks known malicious domains
  • Content Analysis: Real-time page scanning
  • Category Blocking: Block entire categories (adult content, gambling, etc.)
  • Custom Blocklist: Add specific websites to block
  • Allowlist: Whitelist safe websites

Can my child bypass the parental controls?

LimitX Browser includes multiple protection mechanisms:

  • Device Admin Protection: Prevents app uninstallation without PIN
  • Settings Protection: All parental settings require PIN
  • VPN Detection: Alerts when VPN apps are active
  • Browser Reset Protection: Resetting doesn't remove restrictions

However, no solution is 100% bypass-proof. Active parental involvement is still important.

How do I set up keyword monitoring?

  1. Go to Settings → Parental Controls → Keyword Monitoring
  2. Enable "Monitor Social Media Apps"
  3. Add keywords or phrases to monitor
  4. Choose notification preferences
  5. Grant Accessibility permission when prompted

Keyword monitoring works on popular social media apps and messaging platforms.

What apps can be monitored for keywords?

Currently supported apps include:

  • WhatsApp
  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • Twitter/X
  • Telegram
  • Snapchat (limited)
  • TikTok (limited)

Note: Monitoring capabilities vary by app and depend on Android's accessibility features.

How do I remove or disable parental controls?
